We all remember those rare moments in life when our normally hectic routine is suddenly frozen in time. Those moments that cause us to forget what we were doing or where we were going and that hold us in awe. A brilliant sunburst suddenly piercing through on a cloudy day. The vibrant reflections dancing over rocks in a clear mountain stream. A ridge of trees lit up like fire in the sunset. These small windows into the majesty and creativity of God through His creation often come and go in just a moment. Very quickly we find ourselves again caught up in the movement of life. Still, these small glimpses tend to stay with us and live on in our memories.
As an artist and a lover of God’s creation, I am constantly in pursuit of these elusive moments. Through paint and canvas I long to capture and recreate even the tiniest spark that will bring back those memories. I find myself reasoning that if only I were away from the familiar, the expected, and the “mundane” then I would find these glimpses in abundance. Then suddenly, something will grab my normal life and bring it to a standstill. I will be humbled by the realization that God’s handiwork is in fact all around me. The familiar and expected will be revealed as the amazing blessings that they are. And my pursuit for inspiration will be found in the things I see every day.
