The idea for Thunderhead came after I had the chance to visit the great folks at M3 Ranch in Southern Texas and photograph some of their animals. I needed a painting for the Vaquero Del Culturo gallery show in Ft Worth, and I decided featuring a Texas longhorn was the way to go. While I had taken hundreds of photos at the ranch, the weather was constantly shifting and threatening to storm. In the end, I combined a large variety of reference material to bring together what I hope is an eye-catching scene.
